In 2023 I was contacted by a woman named Deborah Arsenault who was interested in writing a book about her son, Carson. Carson was born with Angelman syndrome, which leaves him non-verbal but he still expresses himself through his love of sunglasses. Carson often wear multiple pairs at the same time, which may look silly and different, but that is not a bad thing. Carson's playfulness comes out in his sunglass choices, and he's able to speak to people through that, even when no words are spoken. Deborah has observed the different ways that people react to Carson for over 30 years, and was inspired to create a book that talks about his life and impact.

I edited, art directed, and illustrated Deborah's
text into a picture book which we then
self-published on Amazon in early 2024.
